When the United States Powerball implements its format change in just under a month, the opportunity for more Americans to benefit from one of the world’s largest lottery games will increase significantly, from 1 in 32 to 1 in 25. The changes in format will be implemented on October 7.
In addition, those who win the third prize in the Powerball – four numbers plus the PB – will now be in the position to win $50 000 in this category. The previous allocation for the third prize was $10 000.
It is often said that less is more and in the case of the US Powerball, under the new format, your chances of winning the Jackpot will be less but your prospects of walking away with some kind of return for your $2 investment will improve. In addition, if and when you do win the Jackpot, the pot is expected to be bigger and better.
While the Powerball recorded a $564-million Jackpot payout in February 2015, it still has not come anywhere close to matching the $656-million Jackpot recorded by close competitor Mega Millions (another American lottery game) in March 2012.
Powerball hasn’t been able to match the $648-million Jackpot by Mega Millions in December 2013 either. The conventional wisdom appears to be that the bigger the Jackpot payout, the more players you get, and the more money there is to be made.
So, which is better, the new US Powerball or the Mega Millions? Why not play both at the Lotter, where your options to make money are more extensive than they have ever been? Buy a ticket online now.
