During a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, this week, the president asked the crowd whether his face would one day be added to the historical structure.
“Every president on Mount Rushmore believed in protecting American industry. Now here’s what I do. I’d ask whether or not you think I will someday be on Mount Rushmore,” he said.
“But here’s the problem: If I did it joking, totally joking, having fun, the fake news media will say ‘he believes he should be on Mount Rushmore’. So I won’t say it, okay? I won’t say it.”
Despite Trump wanting his suggestion to seem like an innocent joke, Twitter users didn’t let the president get off that easily. Users immediately took to social media to add their opinion about Trump’s subtle insistence.
“I’d put Trump on the Mt Rushmore if he’d leave now,” one user said.
“Oh hell put him on Mount Rushmore. Give him a tent and an outhouse and leave. He will be right where he deserves to be,” another commented.
Other users went on to create memes of what the mountain would look like if Trump’s face was added.
