SIR Peter Jackson’s first Hobbit film has some ground to make up with its Lords of the Rings predecessor in terms of Oscars success.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was nominated for three Academy Awards – Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The makeup-hairstyling team from Les Miserables was victorious, while Life of Pi’s visual effects team won and Lincoln took the Oscar for production design.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy collected 17 Oscars between 2002 and 2004 from 30 nominations. Jackson is also converting JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit into three films.
