Singer Hozier donates proceeds to NZ charity

Irish singer Hozier, most famous for his smash hit ‘Take me to church’, will donate the proceeds of his new music video to New Zealand charity Shine, which focuses on domestic violence.

Hozier’s video for Cherry Wine will be released on Valentine’s Day, and all the money connected to it in New Zealand will go to Shine. There are other charities, around the world, connected to it as well.

The video stars actress Saoirse Ronan, most famously in the film The Lovely Bones, and portrays a woman in an abusive relationship.

Shine director Jane Drumm said: “We are incredibly grateful that Hozier has chosen to raise awareness about domestic violence as well as donate proceeds from his sing to Shine.

“Domestic abuse is at epidemic levels in New Zealand, with New Zealand Police attending an incident every five minutes.”

The single can be purchased on iTunes. If you or anyone you know needs help with a domestic abuse situation, call the Shine helpline on 0508 744 633.
