The wait is nearly over for Hobbit fans desperate for a glimpse of the second instalment of the trilogy.
The first trailer for the second film in New Zealand filmmaker Sir Peter Jackson’s trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, will hit official websites and Facebook pages around the world at 3am (AEST) on Wednesday.
The film adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s novel continues the quest of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and 13 dwarves on a quest to reclaim the lost dwarf kingdom of Erebor.
The movie is set for official release on December 11.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed the second film will not have its world premiere in Wellington.
The films have been a boost to tourism, with 8.5 per cent of visitors to New Zealand between January to April this year saying the making of the Hobbit movies in New Zealand was a factor in their decision to visit.
