RIP: New Zealand’s greatest losses of 2017

Arguably the greatest All Black of all time, Sir Colin died in August. He was 81 years old – and played 133 matches for the All Blacks between 1957 and 1971.

The sudden death of former New Zealand netball player Tania Dalton shocked the country.

The 45-year-od mother of three collapsed while playing touch rugby in Auckland in February – and had her life support switched off a week later.

John Clarke

John Clarke (aka Fred Dagg) was a comedian, actor. He died in Australia in April, aged 68.

Sione Lauaki

Tonga-born former All Black Sione Lauaki suffered from health issues including renal failure and cardiovascular problems for many years – and passed away in February. He was just 35.

Sir Douglas Myers

Chief executive of Lion Breweries and Lion Nathan, Sir Douglas Meyers was one of New Zealand’s richest men. He died in April at the age of 78.
