The 2014 spring season will see a record 136 teams battle it out across 12 different leagues throughout London, plus a whole load more in store during spring which includes the Wasps Tag Rugby Festival (5th April).
There will be a host of free taster sessions for new players (starting from 8th April) and some great social events such as the Try Tag Rugby summer season launch party at Temple Walkabout (11th April).
The previous record spring season was 95 teams playing so not only did the 2014 spring season exceed this figure, it smashed it by a whopping 41 teams.
Spring Leagues are taking place at Barnes, Battersea (men’s & mixed), Borough, Clapham Common, Highbury, Olympic Park, Rotherhithe (men’s & mixed), Shoreditch, Tooting Bec, Upper Holloway & White City.
It’s still not too late to get involved as some leagues still have limited space available for individuals looking to be placed in a team. The majority of leagues have divisions to cater for various standards and new players are welcome.
Meanwhile, the 2014 Wasps Tag Rugby Festival which will be held at Twyford Avenue Sports Ground in Acton on Saturday, 5th April is looking set to be a cracking tournament. The Wasps Festival has received team entries as far away as Ireland and last year’s record 23 team tournament looks set to be beaten in 2014, with 18 teams already registered and still three weeks to go. This tournament will see teams from all over London come together to see who will hold up the silverware and the plenty of London Wasps prizes on offer in Try Tag Rugby’s first one day tournament of the year.
For all those curious people out there who have heard about Tag Rugby but have never played, here is your chance to play in a social, welcoming and non competitive environment and best of all, it’s free! Free taster sessions will be held at the following venues, starting from 8th April onward; Balham, Clapham Common, East London RFC, Finsbury Park, Hyde Park, Reading, Richmond, Shoreditch & Wimbledon. If you’re an Aussie new to London, if you get involved you will make a heap of new friends, keep fit and have fun! We hope to welcome you to a Tag Rugby pitch soon.
