New Zealand takes two Baftas for Hawking film

Kiwi scriptwriter Anthony McCarten did New Zealand proud at the BAFTAs.

The Theory of Everything, a film written and produced by New Zealand scriptwriter Anthony McCarten, won two awards at the British Film Awards (BAFTAS).

The movie centres around physicist Stephen Hawking, and McCarten, from New Plymouth, approached Hawking’s wife Jane Hawking before writing and producing the script for the film.

The Theory of Everything won best adapted screenplay and outstanding british film, beating the likes of The Imitation Game, Gone Girl and American Sniper.

It is rumoured that the film will do well at the Oscars where it is nominated for five awards including best adapted screenplay and best picture.
