Multiple Bathurst winner says he’s uncertain about his long-term future as a V8 Supercar driver.
The veteran New Zealander underwent an operation earlier this week to fuse vertebrae and will be out of action until at least September.
The four-time Bathurst winner, who turns 40 in August, is on a one-year deal with Kelly Racing.
Murphy is a long-time Holden figurehead and it remains to be seen if Kelly Racing’s switch to Japanese manufacturer Nissan from 2013 will affect his future with the team.
And Murphy says being laid up for months is unlikely to help his prospects of remaining a full-time driver.
“As far as next year goes, I have no idea,” Murphy told motorsports website Speedcafe.com.
“I just need to play it out and see what presents itself. I’m hoping this operation doesn’t do too much damage to my future.
“I don’t know if it will or won’t, and that’s not really up to me.
“I will be judged on the opportunities that are out there.”
