This quick and entertaining league is becoming well known as one to join for a variety of reasons. Many players use it as a way of getting out an about before spring and summer leagues starts, and it’s a great way to start enjoying the longer days and warmer temperatures.
This is only a four week touch league, as apposed to the normal eight weeks, and it gives new teams and new comers to the game of touch a chance to try it out and see if touch is a game they would want to play throughout the spring and summer.
Each team plays two 20-minute games, with no half time in each game. In the first three weeks, teams will play round or pool games and then in the fourth week it is the play-off games and finals.
Another reason why some individuals may play in this league is because they are unable to play in the spring or summer leagues for various reasons. The April Shootout allows anyone in London to get involved and enjoy a fantastic social league in a very busy city.
The Shootout leagues have also been used as a warm-up for many of the clubs that play in London, especially as a warm-up for the annual National Touch Series (NTS) that is played by competing clubs from all over the country, including Welsh and Scottish touch clubs.
The clubs have found it to be a great way to play short, sharp games and correct aspects of the team‘s play during and between games. In the past few seasons, a London club has won the overall NTS series more than any other club from another region.
This year the April Clapham Common Shootout will be run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 18:30 till 20:00 at the usual Clapham Common venue that is only 5 minutes walk from Clapham South Tube station.
Once again, there well be mixed leagues on all three nights and depending on the number of men’s teams, there might be an extra men’s league in the Monday league.
