But by kick-off this past weekend, thanks to a very late registration from a mixed team, the league is now running, with five mixed and four men’s teams.
The weather was once again on our side and many, if not all, of the teams hung around to watch the remaining games… secretly hoping to catch another game for a team needing an extra player.
All the teams enjoyed themselves, even those who were playing for the very first time. The rules can be a little tricky to get your head around, but our experienced In2Touch referees were there to help those new teams learn as the games went on.
There are only three weeks remaining and the final week will play host to the finals in both divisions. This means the next two weeks are all-important for those teams hoping to get into the top two places and thus reach the final.
What is fantastic to see is the number of new faces and new teams taking part in this league and it’s a great sign for things to come in the New Year. Two of the current teams entered in the Christmas Shootout League have been formed from individual players who had contacted us to get involved.
Many of these players had recently attended the Free O2Touch Taster Sessions, which where run throughout the months of September and October, during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
These sessions were run throughout England in an initiative to promote the game, to get people of all ages, abilities and genders to get active, learn the game and enjoy playing touch when rugby is not an option.
These Free Touch Sessions will be run again in 2016, from late March, keep an eye out for further information.
With the 2015 touch season coming to an end, we look forward to 2016, a full year packed with leagues, tournaments and social events.
There is so much for you to look forward to, from the winter league, active touch, spring & summer O2Touch leagues, and we cannot forget the annual In2Touch Boat Party on the Thames River.
