Mark Taylor reportedly “used social media, including appearing in a 2015 Isis propaganda video, to encourage terrorist attacks in Australia and New Zealand” = and was was placed on a United States terrorist watchlist.
Taylor, who had been in Syria since 2014 before fleeing late last year, has allegedly been placed in a Kurdish prison.
“There was no food, no money, basic services were pretty much collapsed. I was in a pickle myself and had to make a final decision, which was to leave,” he was quoted as saying by the ABC.
Dubbed the “bumbling jihadi” after inadvertently revealing his Syria location five years ago, Taylor also lived in Australia for periods – and was deported in 2010. He says he had only been used as a guard during his time with Isis.
New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has since stated: “He would need to make his own way to where New Zealand has consular representation. He has associated himself with a designated terrorist organisation. New Zealand has laws in place to deal with those circumstances.”
