FORMER Black Caps’ paceman Shane Bond has been confirmed as the New Zealand cricket team’s bowling coach.
He replaced Australian Damien Wright.
His first job will be working with the team on their tough tour of Sri Lanka, which begins this month.
New Zealand Cricket director of cricket John Buchanan said:
“Shane’s international record speaks for itself and in recent years he has developed into a highly skilled coach and mentor,” Fairfax NZ reported.
“His knowledge of the modern game will be a valuable asset to the team and he has the skill-set to complement (coach) Mike Hesson and (assistant coach) Bob Carter.”
Bond has previously worked with Central Districts and the New Zealand women’s team.
He was excited about his new task.
“This is a role I have worked towards since I stopped playing.
“I’ve enjoyed a range of coaching experiences around both men’s and women’s teams alongside some very good coaches and feel I’m ready to add something to the team.
“The experience of playing for New Zealand exceeded my expectations and I’m sure it will be no different as a coach.”
