Your guide to reducing everyday stress

Stress is a part of everyone’s life.

It is often caused when you are overwhelmed by the day to day activities including household chores, work related issues or academic burden. Some people say stress is quite healthy as it motivates us to reach out for various coping mechanisms in order to stay healthy and happy. On the other hand, stress can also lead to negative health effects such as insomnia, lack of appetite and in some cases, depression. However, no matter how stressed you may be feeling, the good news is that there are a number of strategies you can make use of in order to minimize the negative effects of stress. Below are some of them:

Identify the Triggers of Stress

The first step is to be aware of what triggers your stress and this helps to address it in order to relieve stress. Triggers of stress would differ depending on different characteristics of people. Some people would identify working long hours as a trigger of stress, while others may not. Therefore, take some time off to sit and note down what exactly triggers these feelings of stress and uneasiness.

Pamper Yourself

Life is short. Therefore, why not pamper yourself once in a while to get rid of the stress you have been feeling? For instance, consider going for a relaxing day spa which will not only help you to relieve mental stress but can also reduce physical stress. It helps to soothe and relax your muscles which will boost your energy levels and make you more active at work and at home. Spas have also shown to enhance serotonin release in the brain which can improve mood and make you feel more relaxed. Hence, do not forget to take some time off to pamper yourself!

Plan and Organize

Another effective way to reduce stress is to plan and organize your work ahead. Most people feel stressed out when they try to complete multiple tasks within a short period of time. For example, if you have an assignment to submit in a week’s time, make sure to work on it every day. In this manner, you will not have to wait until the last minute to complete the whole assignment in a day which will make you feel overwhelmed.

One reason why you may be feeling stressed out most of the time is probably that you don’t balance your life. It is important to balance both your social life along with your professional or academic life. If you are only focused on work or your studies, it is obvious you are going to experience more stress than a person who has a good social life. Therefore, it is important to socialize with your friends and family once in a while as it is a great way to relieve stress.

Although you may feel like stress is something you cannot control, it can always be minimized in many ways like mentioned above.
