Waitangi Day in a different way

A face-book campaign has been launched to select a New Zealander who should be stripped of their citizenship on Waitangi Day.

kiwi WAITANGI Day is traditionally a day on which citizenship ceremonies are held all around New Zealand but this year Uncitizen Aotearoa is asking people to nominate a New Zealander who deserves to have their citizenship rescinded on our National Day.

“Let’s just vote them off,” says Norm, a UA spokesman. “I mean, it’s the ultimate in democracy isn’t it? If the rest of your countrymen no longer want you around then I think that’s fair enough. Just do the decent thing and bugger off. ”

People are being asked to visit the UA Facebook pagehttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Uncitizen-Aotearoa/497413007046336?ref=hl to make their nominations.

Nominations close at midnight on February 5th from 8am on Waitangi Day and closing at 5pm.

The unlucky winner will be announced at 5.30pm on Waitangi Day. “Sometimes I think we take it all for granted, you know. And there are people in this Country who just don’t know how lucky they are to be here at all. Look, if someone has really got under your skin this past year or they’ve embarrassed themselves to such an extent that you think we should just let them go, you owe it to the Nation to nominate them. I can think of about a dozen people I’d get rid of; and that’s just me. And I’m the most easy-going bugger you’d ever meet. ”

Organisers are urging people to get their nominations in early to give voters a chance to think about their options. Uncitizen Aotearoa acknowledges that their poll doesn’t have any real weight under New Zealand law but hopes that whoever wins/loses the vote will just do the decent thing and emigrate. The first nomination on the Uncitizen Aotearoa Facebook page was for Epsom MP, John Banks.
