The RFL will work closely with Try Tag Rugby to expand the sport of Tag Rugby and provide additional marketing support and equipment.

The partnership will help Try Tag Rugby continue to grow their successful and thriving London leagues as well as take the game to new areas across the country. Try Tag Rugby run adult Tag Rugby leagues throughout the year at over 20 London and Reading venues which include Clapham Common, Hyde Park, Olympic Park, Shoreditch and Wimbledon.

Try Tag Rugby will operate alongside the popular Play Touch Rugby League programme that was launched by the RFL earlier in the year.

During summer, there were 248 teams participating in Try Tag Rugby leagues across London and Reading, with 3,000 players competing every week across 25 leagues. With Try Tag Rugby and the RFL launching Tag Rugby leagues in Yorkshire next year, the participation numbers are expected to increase to 350-400 teams nationwide in 2015. To keep up to date with all the latest Try Tag Rugby developments in Yorkshire, give @TryTagYorkshire a follow on Twitter and/or give the page “Try Tag Rugby Yorkshire” a like on Facebook.

RFL Director of Participation and Partnerships, David Gent says, “We are very excited to announce our new partnership with Try Tag Rugby. Tag Rugby provides the perfect addition to our non-contact offerings after the successful launch of Play Touch Rugby League earlier this year.”

Try Tag Rugby CEO, Phillip Browne added, “We are extremely excited to be working with the RFL in growing the sport of Tag Rugby across England. This partnership with the RFL will take our sport to the next level in both the social and elite versions of Tag. We believe that with this partnership with the RFL, our launch in Yorkshire and other parts of the country will be a success and attract many new players to the sport.”

In other news, Try Tag Rugby has opened registrations for all the upcoming winter leagues which commence from 17 November onward at 10 venues across London. Leagues will be taking place at the following venues:

Monday: Acton, Borough, Tooting Bec, Upper Holloway
Tuesday: Olympic Park
Wednesday: Rotherhithe
Thursday: Barnes, East London RFC
Saturday: Clapham Common, Caledonian Road

With 183 teams currently playing in autumn leagues across London and far less venues available in winter, most leagues will sell-out far in advance of the registration deadlines. Make sure to register ASAP to avoid missing out!

The winter leagues cater to all standards of players from the elite to the complete beginner with most venues running a number of divisions. Registrations are open to teams, part-teams and individuals.

If you’re a Kiwi new to London, if you get involved you will make a heap of new friends, keep fit and have plenty of fun! We look forward to welcoming you to a Tag Rugby pitch soon.
