The nation’s capital certainly has turned on some beautiful weather of late to welcome in the new Tag Rugby season.
Last week saw 4 Tag Rugby finals take place across London. At Shepherd’s Bush last Tuesday, Rat Bastards defeated Excess Taggage 8-4 to be crowned West London Mixed Tag Rugby champions for early summer. Kylie Jendra of Excess Taggage was awarded, “Player of the Tournament”.
The 8 team, South London Mixed Tag Rugby competition at Tooting Bec Common was taken out by Double Pluggers in a nail biting final, defeating Eye of the Tagger, 11-10 in extra time. Double Pluggers, Grant Thompson was in fantastic form all season & was awarded, “Player of the Tournament”.
The North West London Mixed Tag Rugby final was contested last Thursday between Ref’s Fault & Suffolk n Close. Ref’s Fault who have only lost 1 fixture in 3 Try Tag Rugby competitions were the clear favourites against new comers, Suffolk n Close. Ref’s Fault went into the half-time break, 5-4 up in a very close encounter, only to produce a faultless 2nd half & claim victory 12-4. Ben Farlow from Ref’s Fault was outstanding all season and was the undisputed, “Player of the Tournament”
Over at Finsbury Park was the North London Men’s Tag Rugby final. Local Rugby Union side, Haringey Rhino’s were new comers to Tag Rugby but improved immensely as the season progressed. The Rhino’s were too strong for Willesden Wanderers taking the title with a 9-6 victory.
For the travellers who can’t commit to an 8 week season, there are 1 day tournaments on the 4th of July (Wood Green) & 31st of July (Twickenham) to get involved in.
