Late Summer Tag kicks off
Round 1 of the late summer Bermondsey mixed Tag Rugby competition went off with a bang.
By Alistair Davis

In the A grade, The Beefcakes opened with a stunning 15-2 annihilation of The Tuggas thanks to five female and five male tries.

These two teams who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the early summer league were expecting a tight game, however the Beefcakes set down an early marker as the team to beat in the late summer league.

Last season’s champions, Tag Me If You Can got off to a solid start with an 8-3 victory over a depleted Chris-Cross with Kolone Yung (pictured) playing particularly well.

In the B grade, Chris–Cross’s spinoff team Jump Jump put in a fine debut performance to defeat the Regulators 14-6, whilst Tagtics overcame fellow debutants The Randoms 6-5. The final match of the day featured Kaplan 3.0, a team who lost 10 straight games over the spring and summer seasons taking on debutants Barbican Barbarians. Kaplan 3.0, who only last week had recorded their first ever win, put in another fine performance to run out 9-4 winners.

The victory was a great reward for the persistence they have put into their performances since joining as complete Tag Rugby novices back in March.

The Bermondsey Monday league is now full. However, a new Thursday night league beginning this week still requires more male and female players. With Surrey Quays station on the East London line directly opposite the park and Canada Water station only a short stroll away also, this competition is a great option for anyone living or working from Shoreditch to Crystal Palace or along the Jubilee Line.
