Ryan NelsenLONDON football club Queens Park Rangers are hopeful New Zealand defender Ryan Nelsen will stay at the club until at least the end of February.

The defender was last week appointed coach of MLS team Toronto FC, despite still being under contract at the Premier League strugglers. They are bottom of the table, and Nelsen’s presence is crucial if they are to avoid the drop, as despite being 35, he has been a standout this season.Manager Harry Redknapp told the Daily Mail he hoped to have Nelsen’s services for “another six or seven weeks.”His contract runs until June 30, while Toronto begin the American season in early March. His retirement is also a blow to the All Whites, who had hoped to have the inspirational leader available as they attempt to qualify for the 2014 Fifa World Cup.Nelsen has also played for Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur during his time in England.
