Prince Charles gets surprise kiss from local in Dunedin

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla’s walk in Dunedin’s town centre this week was given an amusing shake-up when a woman, originally from Yorkshire, grabbed the future king and gave him a big kiss.

womanThe Prince of Wales was clearly not averse to Lesley Hayde’s suggestion, as he walked towards her when she shouted ‘Give us a kiss, Charlie!’ Security intervened, but it didn’t end in too much drama.

Hayde, decked in her Union Jack flag despite living in New Zealand for nearly 50 years, said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald: “When he came out, I shouted, ‘Give us a kiss, give us a kiss, Charlie’.

“I couldn’t believe it when he turned around and came towards me … and he said, ‘oh I don’t know if we should kiss”, and I just grabbed him and we got a kiss, and we got a kiss from Camilla afterwards.

“I thought, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to end up in that big prison behind me’.

“But it was brilliant. It was a good laugh.”

Charles and Camilla are on a 12-day trip to New Zealand and Australia.
