ONE New Zealander has been injured in an attack on a packed upmarket shopping mall in Kenya.

Masked gunmen stormed the Westgate Mall in Nairobi on Saturday (local time), killing 39 people in a massacre claimed by Somalia’s al-Shabab rebels.

New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says one New Zealander was injured in the attack and is in a stable condition in hospital.

MFAT says there is no information at this stage to suggest any other New Zealanders have been caught up in the attack.

Currently 123 New Zealanders are registered as being in Kenya.

MFAT says no further details will be released about the injured New Zealander for privacy reasons.
