NZ crush Canada in Glasgow sevens final

New Zealand have run rampant against Canada 54-7 in the final of the Glasgow sevens tournament to virtually secure their 12th world series title.

Scott Curry and Ben Lam bagged doubles as the All Blacks Sevens defied wet conditions to score eight tries against the outmatched Canadians, contesting their first final.

The outcome propels New Zealand 19 points clear of nearest rivals South Africa on the series standings after the Blitzbokke were stunned in the quarter-finals by hosts Scotland, who qualified for their first semifinal for five years.

New Zealand need only advance through pool play in the ninth and final round at London next week to secure their fourth successive series crown and their 12th in 15 editions.

They were unbeaten in pool play, including a win over South Africa, before accounting for Australia 19-7 in the quarter-finals on Sunday followed by a tense 19-14 defeat of Fiji.
