NZ crew comes home, new crew deployed

The crew of the New Zealand air force Orion that’s spent 18 days searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane is returning home, with another crew to be deployed.

NZ Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman says the changeover is taking place on Thursday and the returning crew should be back in Auckland just after midnight.

“They have done a thoroughly professional job,” Dr Coleman said.

“The crew has flown a total of 105 hours, completed 36 hours on search, and have covered a search area which is more than one and a half times the size of New Zealand.”

Dr Coleman said New Zealand remains committed to supporting the Australian-led search efforts in the southern Indian Ocean for flight MH370.

The new crew will be ready to begin searching on Friday.
