NZ beat Australian women’s rugby team

The New Zealand Black Ferns have beat the Australian women’s rugby team 38-3 in a Test match at Rotorua on Sunday.

black-ferns-1200The four-time world champion Black Ferns crossed four times in the last 25 minutes against the ill-disciplined Wallaroos, who ran out of puff through sheer weight of defence.

Starved of possession for long periods, Australia’s cause wasn’t helped by yellow cards shown to prop Oneata Schwalger midway through the first half and reserve lock Alisha Hewett near the end of the seecond – both for persistent offending.

New Zealand captain and inside centre Amiria Rule scored their first try while Schwalger was off the field to help the hosts to an 11-3 halftime lead.

Flanker Rawinia Everitt and fullback Selica Winiata scored from overlaps in the second spell before the floodgates opened after Hewett departed, with debut winger Honey Hireme and centre Huriana Manuel crossing.

Australia led early on through a penalty to fullback Ashleigh Hewson.
