THE international terminal at Auckland Airport has been evacuated after a smoke flare was set off.

Emergency services were called to the airport just before 6pm (3pm AEST) on Monday after smoke was spotted in the terminal, fire northern communications spokesman Jaron Phillips told AAP.

Seven fire engines were sent to the scene.

Shortly after fire crews arrived it was discovered that the smoke was from a smoke flare, Mr Phillips said.
