THE funeral for the New Zealander killed by a falling branch in Kew Gardens will be held in Auckland on Thursday.

Louise Wilson was visiting the Royal Botanical Gardens in southwest London  with friends last Sunday when a large branch fell from a tree, killing her instantly.

Her friends managed to flee after looking up and seeing a 30cm thick branch from a Lebanese cedar falling, but it struck the 31-year-old account manager.

She suffered “non-surivable head injuries”, the West London Coroner’s Court was told last week.

Wind gusts of up to 50kmh were recorded in the city that day.

Wilson lived in Hanwell and worked in Southall.

A death notice said Wilson’s “gentle caring nature touched so many hearts”.

There will be an informal gathering in Papakura tomorrow, followed by a service the next day.

In lieu of flowers Wilson’s family asked for donations to be made to the Auckland City Mission.
