Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, MP for Maungakiekie, has expressed his sadness at the sudden death of Papali’itele Peter Fatiolofa. Peter passed away this morning in Samoa at age 54.

“Peter was an inspiration to a generation of young people and his sudden passing is a huge loss to the people of Samoa and New Zealand.” Mr Lotu-Iiga says.

“He was a prominent leader of Manu Samoa during their first Rugby World Cup campaign in 1991 and highly revered in the Samoan community. He was also a great contributor to Auckland Provincial Rugby and locally through the Ponsonby Rugby Club.”

“I had the privilege of knowing this iconic, larger than life figure. He was jovial and passionate about family, sport and grass roots community people. He will be sorely missed by many”.

“Our prayers, sympathies and love are with Annie and the family during these difficult times.”
