Quite a feat for a video which cost less than $2000 to make, and from a band who are yet to release their debut album.
It's not a joke, but The Thomas Oliver Band is cracking up anyway
Their debut music video for their song ‘Going Home’ has been chosen from over 1000 entries for the music video section of London’s Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival.
Watch the video:
“It's amazing, actually. It's overwhelming, coming from a little old video in New Zealand, being up against those guys,” says video director Jennifer Quinlin.
Some of the bands they're up against are the Gorillaz, whose video stars none other than Bruce Willis.
French alt rockers Phoenix are also in the running, along with The Fray with their unique version of Kanye West’s hit ‘Heartless’.
So some pretty stiff competition but the boys rate their chances.
“I think the real strength of ours is the concept,” says lead singer Thomas Oliver.
“…which is to build these instruments out of scraps and things we find, which we thought was great because it reflects Kiwi ingenuity.”
That Kiwi ingenuity saw them rope in Ms Quinlin from Weta to direct the video, and its subsidiary Park Road Post Production to add the final touches.
The group says a win in London would mean great exposure ahead of releasing their debut album in September.
