Last chance to get involved with Active Touch leagues

With the penultimate Active Touch league of the winter nearing its final stages, it’s time to look back and see how the current teams have gone, and what to look forward to when the final league of the winter begins in the first week of March.

With the leagues being shortened by one week due to the spring O2 Touch leagues starting a little earlier this year, teams have not had the luxury of settling into their stride and continually improving week by week. It’s been a sprint, and a win the first three weeks is bound to set you up for the final.

All teams would have wanted to start off with a good win, but the fitness levels where not what they were before the Christmas and New Year break.

Experienced players, playing for two or three seasons, were feeling the pressure from newcomers, due to the fitness levels and also not having enough substitutes in the team to maintain the high pace throughout the game.

With a lower level of fitness, thinking quickly after seeing an attacker or defender, players’ reactions are much slower and in a game where a try can be scored in seconds, this has proven costly for most teams.

Having said that, the latter part of the league has seen a vast difference in the players’ fitness levels, from just 30-60 minutes of running around. However, it’s the type of running that is making the difference.

While playing Active Touch, you don’t realise it but you are pretty much sprinting up to 15 meters every time you make a break. These sprints add up over the game and make a huge leap towards getting fit and healthy again.

No wonder the teams that are involved have chosen Active Touch to get their players ready for the busy season of outdoor touch coming up through out the summer.

Active Touch is a fantastic mixed sport for people of all ages and abilities. It’s also a great way to have fun, work off a few calories, but not paying strict attention to the level of effort you are putting in each week.

The final Active Touch league is the late autumn league and it begins on 1 March. The current teams are still eager to play, but there is always an opportunity for individuals, and even a team or two, to join the league and have a fantastic time.

To find out more, please contact us or go online and search Active Touch. You’ll be surprised how quick and skillful the game is.
