Kiwi in the UK raises over £40,000 to open specialist NZ wine store in London

A New Zealand woman in the UK launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise £35,000 to set up a specialist wine store in London. She has since raised over £40,000.

Melanie Brown set up The New Zealand Cellar website in 2014 as a means of introducing the best of New Zealand’s wines to the UK market. In order to build, design and fit out a specialist wine store in Brixton, London, Brown said she needed £35,000.

The ambitious Kiwi launched a Kickstarter campaign and has exceeded her target of £35,000. To date she has 181 backers and has raised £41,036.

Every extra bit counts to make the shop even bigger and better, explains Brown.

The shop will be home to over 200 New Zealand wines from 72 producers.

She had the following to say on her Kickstarter campaign page:

“No rest for the wicked at this end, we switch from campaign mode to the reality of creating our shop all whilst continuing to service the lovely folk of the UK with plentiful supplies of NZ wine, so we must get back to packing those boxes… Thanks a million to all who’ve played a part in joining this journey and helping to create a wider recognition for all the producers that continue to inspire us everyday. Pledges are still welcome for the remainder of our campaign, and as promised we’ll provide a full breakdown as to where and how any additional money will be spent.”

Take a look at her Kickstarter campaign, and do your bit by pledging anything from  £10. You will be rewarded for your pledge with either tickets to the launch party, limited-edition prints, Riedel tasting glasses and private wine events.
