A glamorous charity ball is being held in London this June to benefit The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The Midsummer Masquerade Charity Ball, on 9 June, offers Kiwis and their London friends an opportunity to enjoy one of the city’s finest venues whilst supporting the appeal and the UK-based charity, Changing Faces.

The New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key, launched the Earthquake Appeal in February, aiming to help rebuild the communities, places and services that were devastated last year.

Rebecca Leese, the Ball’s organizer, told New Zealand Times, “Having personally witnessed the devastation caused by the earthquakes, I know that we need to rebuild city’s infrastructure, but also to revitalise the city’s communities.”

On the night, masked revellers will indulge in a night of ‘extravagance and decadence’, topped off with ‘lashings of mystery and intrigue’. The event is open to anyone.

The ticket price includes a drinks reception, a three-course seated dinner, entertainment and an open bar that serves wine, beer and soft drinks.

Changing Faces is a UK based charity for people and families whose lives are affected by conditions, marks or scars that alter their appearance.

Its aim is to help affected individuals lead full and satisfying lives, and to transform public attitudes towards people with disfiguring conditions.

Money will be raised for both charities through ticket sales, event sponsorship and a raffle that will be held on the evening. “Every penny raised will go directly to the charities involved,” said Rebecca.

The venue – The Honourable Artillery Company Gardens in Moorgate – is considered one of London’s most prestigious.

READER OFFER: London Kiwis are urged to support the event and readers of New Zealand Times are entitled to £20 off their Charity Ball ticket. Email Rebecca at info@midsummermasquerade.com for details.
