Chargers claim 2nd Summer Social title

Despite a week of miserable weather leading into the 3rd annual Summer Social Tag Rugby tournament, the weather gods were kind to the Tag Rugby community on Saturday, putting on a sensational day for the tournament.

The tournament which is a joint event run by Try Tag Rugby and Summer Social was held at Old Deer Park in Richmond and attracted a record 25 teams which was well up from the 2013 tournament which had 13 team entries in total.

Last year’s champions, Tumeke didn’t enter a team this year so they were unable to defend their 2013 title.

The Chargers who were the inaugural champions in 2012 started off strong, going through the pool stages undefeated but had a close encounter with the Tagquila Shots with a narrow 5-2 win.

These two teams were to meet again in the final and the Chargers were victorious, this time with a commanding 8-1 triumph to claim their 2nd Summer Social title!

In the other divisions, titles were won by Untouchables (men’s title), Breaking Tag (mixed plate title) and Vicious & Delicious (mixed shield title).

In other news, Try Tag Rugby’s London representative side the London Residents final open trial will be taking place on Sunday, 8th June at Twyford Avenue Sports Ground in Acton. The London Residents representative squad is made up of the best Tag Rugby players in London regardless of nationality. They will be taking on Great Britain on Sunday, 29th June and Ireland on Friday, 18th July. Everyone is welcome to come down for a trial.

Try Tag Rugby’s Summer season competitions (July – August) kick off from 24th June onward and they are now all open for team and individual registrations.
